The Master Teaches the Student the skills to pay his bills

There comes a time in every internet marketers life when they have to take the next step and learn to program. This is always a hard decision as you have usually spent hundreds of hours working your way around and found it extremely difficult to take that next step and push your business forward, with the limits being the systems you are using.

Whilst I am lucky that my main line of business has always been website development, as well as building website development tools – I am also big enough to realise very few website owners have such technical abilities. This blog is about enabling you – the non-tech savvy user to build a living online and as such – when a recommendation from one of my trusted friends comes through I take it seriously.

If  you have been following the blog from day 1, you will quickly realise the first thing we did was to configure a email list gathering plugin on wordpress. Now why did I do this and why do I continue to add this to every single website as I revisit my network…

It is simply because you need to think of your email lists like a savings account , invest in it, nurture it with all of the offers you can lay your hands on and send out newsletters even if you do not earn any money from them! Through this process you are building it into a fantastic resource for your subscribers, and whilst doing this you are earning something far more valuable than a few £’s or $’s in your bank… you are earning trust.

Today whilst hanging around the usual private forums on the internet I got into a discussion with another user about what they expected and how they were surprised I would reccomend an affiliated product.

Now this is something I have always taken for granted on the internet, in every post I read by other internet marketers, you know they are only going to reccomend the products which actually earn them money as they have to put food on the table. Typically you will find they will offer the most expensive solution to any problem – for example I have a number of free plugins which when combined together make up the one paid pluging John Chow reccomends. However once this blog has generated the revenue to move onwards I will be upgrading to make my life easier!

In affiliate marketing, there are a number of qualities which are needed, however which of these are key qualities. As usual this post is based upon my opinion and some of those are showing through in me as I write this post

1. Passion: Writing a blog at past 1 am in the morning shows my passion for this blog – this is a key thing if you are going to push forwards and build a traffic worthy website. And lets face it – without traffic you will never do anything to build a list.

In the world of online earning, the first thing you need to do is work out what you need to be able to call yourself a problogger. Once you have done this, the next thing you need to do is to work out what traffic figures, with a realistic conversion rate to earn you X amount per month. Now as you start out you will not be able to charge £1000′s to a company for a marketing campaign, and depending on your niche you are going to be looking at less than 50p per click initially, meaning each user is worth a percentage of the 50p per click, this is known as CPM in the adwords interface (Cost per Mille – Mille is Latin for 1000). This is in effect a calculation based upon the revenue earned for x numer of clicks multiplied by your CTR (Click Through Rate).

Making a living from writing websites in your own time, does this sound like a dream, something that can be done with ease or something completely different? I am sure everybody has read the stories about how to make a million with only $10 investements – closely followed by the statements that only a small percentage of people will earn this amount….
